Fact 1 Since 1960, americans are responsible for generating 251.3 million tons of garbage per year.
- Help your school, neighborhood, or community, by picking up litter or trash and placing it in the proper recycling receptacle.
Fact 2 Water is the most important resource. It is very easy to waste.
- Turning off the faucet while washing your hands, face, or brushing your teeth, will save gallons of water per year.
Fact 3 You can save money and conserve energy in your home every year by:
- turning off all lights and electrical appliances when they are not in use.
- keeping lamps away from the thermostat because it senses heat.
- keeping your thermostat set on 78 degrees during the summer months.
- wearing light clothing, opening a window, and using the ceiling fan during the summer months. This can help you avoid continuous use of the air conditioner.
- keeping the drapes or curtains closed to block out heat from the sun.
- having your thermostat set on 68 degrees during the winter months.
- wearing layered clothing, thick socks, and adding extra blankets at bedtime.
Fact 4 You can help reduce the amout of paper and plastic in your school by:
- packing your child's lunch or snack in a reusable lunchbag.
- sending items or supplies to school in a reusable bag or container
